Create a New Home with your existing furnitures
Sometimes a home can lose a little of its cosy feeling. The rooms may start to feel cluttered or a bit dull – but the thought of renovating or buying new things is not appealing. Fortunately, there is a simple solution: you can transform the look of your entire home without spending a single penny. All you need is a little time, creativity, and a fresh perspective on the things you already own.
Step 1: Focus on one room at a time.
Start with one room in the house. Don’t think about the rest of the house just yet – give this room your full attention.
Step 2: Empty the room.
Take everything out, as much as possible. Remove items such as cushions, rugs, and small pieces of furniture like side tables. Take down decorative items, mirrors, and pictures as well.
The goal is to start with a blank canvas – that way, it is easier to imagine something new.
Step 3: Go “shopping” in your own home
Walk into the other rooms and pretend they are your own little interior shop. Look for furniture, décor, and details you can use in the room you are currently working on.
For example, take a look at the wall colour in the room you are focusing on – perhaps a rug from another room would suit it better? Or maybe a painting would look especially good on that wall?
Step 4: Move the furniture around
Think back to when you were younger and rearranging your bedroom made it feel brand new. Try the same thing now. Perhaps the bed would look better on the other side of the room, or a side table from another room would feel perfect next to the window? Experiment until the room feels like your new favourite space in the house.
Step 5: Move on to the next room
Once you are happy with the first room, repeat the process in the next one.
Empty everything out, start fresh, and “shop” in the remaining rooms. Think carefully about how room number two can become perfect, and play around with different furniture and décor from the rest of the house.
Tøm alt ut, start på nytt, og “gå på shopping” i de andre resterende rommene. Tenk nøye gjennom hvordan rom nr. 2 kan bli perfekt og lek deg fram med nye møbler og dekor fra resten av huset.
Step 6: Less can be more
In the end, you may be left with one room that feels a little empty – because you have moved the best pieces into the other rooms. But that is actually an advantage. It helps you see where it may be worth investing a little money.
Perhaps the room needs new curtains, a small table, or some new artwork? Or maybe it simply feels minimalist and calm?
We often collect many things over time, and this can make rooms feel cluttered. If a room does not feel quite right, it is often because there is too much in it,not too little.
After this process, you will most likely end up with rooms that feel fresh and inspiring – and one that is simpler, but tidy and comfortable.
